What to eat before a 5:30 AM class
Quick options that give you energy without weighing you down, plus when to skip food entirely.
Eat small or skip it
At 5:30 AM, most people don’t have time to eat a full meal and digest it before class. You have two good options. Eat something small and easy, or train on an empty stomach if that feels fine for you. Both work. What doesn’t work is a big breakfast 15 minutes before intervals.
Quick options that sit well
If you want something, keep it small and simple. Half a banana, a slice of toast with honey or a few crackers are easy to eat in the car and won’t weigh you down. Have it 20 to 30 minutes before class if you can. Drink a glass of water when you wake up, because you start the day a little dehydrated.
Eat after, not just before
The meal that matters more is the one after class. Aim for some protein and carbohydrates within a couple of hours, like eggs and toast, Greek yogurt with fruit or a smoothie. That helps you recover and keeps you from feeling drained by mid-morning.
